SOUTHAMPTON Sampler VOL.1 was launched at The Joiner's on 2nd February.

The night showcased Southampton’s up-coming local talent.

As part of Independent Venue Week, the night hosted a selection of diverse musical talent, all of whom will be featured on the vinyl sampler.

As a collaboration project by SoCo Music Project and Hightown Studios, the vinyl brings together astounding musicians and artists to celebrate the diversity of Southampton’s music scene.

The lucky ten individual acts and bands were shortlisted from over 100 original entries.

The independent panel that judged the songs was comprising of renowned members of the music community including Rob da Bank, Emma and Russell from Band of Skulls, Dan Mar-Molinero and Stephanie Nieuwenhuys from BBC introducing.

The featured bands were then invited to record their original tracks at SoCo's top recording facility, Hightown Studios.

The studios houses talented producers like, Tali Trow, who has worked with Jack Garret and Damon Albarn. He is the brains behind the record, having mixed and mastered the majority of tracks featured on the sampler.

Live performances from, Cat Eliza T, Pedro, Tenderlore and Zen Juddism garnered an audience of Southampton's devoted music enthusiasts. Each act was able to showcase their talent to a live audience, performing their song that is featured on the sampler for the very first time. Copies of the vinyl were displayed by the door, as everyone who worked on the project chatted avidly with drinks and live music.

Matt Salvage, the director of SoCo Music Project told Total Scoop: “It’s a fantastic album, it really deserves to be on every local music shelf because of how perfectly it highlights the eclectic sound of the music coming out of our city“
